1983 Frederick Stoliker
Frederick Stoliker was the 1983 Kelly Johnson Award recipient for outstanding achievement in the field of flight test engineering.
The following is the original text from the nomination of Frederick by Gerald L. Jones, past President of Society of Flight Test Engineers, on April 14th 1983:
I nominate Mr. Fred Stoliker for the 1982 Kelly Johnson Award. Fred Stoliker is a giant in the field of airplane test, evaluation and development. He has been a leader in flight testing for over 30 years. Fred started as a flight test engineer at Wright-Patterson AFB (before there was an Air Force Flight Test Center at Edwards AFB) and retired recently as the AFFTC Technical Director.
Fred has been involved in test and evaluation of every airplane introduced into the Air Force inventory since the mid-1950s: F-89 to F-20, C-124 to C-18, YB-60 to B-1. Fred has participated in testing airplanes from the first generation jets to the super-sophisticated space machines of today.
Fred's positive contribution to aerospace development in general and flight testing in particular is incalculable. He has been "Mr. Flight Test Center" for so many years that most of us thought he owned the place and just hired various Generals to run it. He has also been a prime mover in AGARD, the scientific community of NATO. Through this international organization, his leadership has had a positive impact not only on United States aerospace weapons development, but that of the entire free world. There could be no better tribute to Fred than for him to receive the Kelly Johnson Award. There could be no better tribute to the award than to have it accepted by Mr. Flight Test: Fred Stoliker.
