Objectives

The Society of Flight Test Engineers is a fraternity of engineers, whose principal professional interest is the flight testing of aerospace vehicles. The objective of the Society is the advancement of flight test engineering throughout the aerospace industry by providing technical and fraternal communication among individuals, both domestic and international, in the allied engineering fields
of test operations, analysis, instrumentation and data systems.

Membership

The membership of the Society shall consist of the following:

Membership Dues

The annual dues for Members, Associate Members and Affiliate Members are payable in advance. Dues shall be established by and may be amended with the approval of two-thirds vote of the Board of Directors. After the first year of membership the annual dues shall be pro-rated to 1 November of the next year. The membership year shall be 1 November through 31 October

A portion of each Member's annual dues, the exact amount to be determined by the Board, shall be allocated for a yearly subscription to the Society publication, Flight Test News. An amount of not less than 10 percent of each Member's annual dues shall be reserved for distribution to his or her selected chapter. No assessments may be levied by any Chapter.

Scholarships

Through the generous donations of SFTE Corporate Members, Chapters, and Individuals, the Society provides yearly scholarship awards to deserving students who meet the following criteria:

  • Applicant shall be the son or daughter of a Society member in good standing or a student member in good standing.
  • Applicant shall have completed his or her college freshman year.
  • Applicant shall be pursuing his or her first undergraduate degree majoring in engineering, computer sciences, mathematics, physics or other technical discipline.
  • Applications must be received at the Society Headquarters Office by the date announced by the Scholarship Chairman.
  • The Society Board of Directors will determine the winner(s) of the scholarship. When a scholarship applicant is related to a member of the Board of Directors that Director must notify the Board and must be excluded from the scholarship selection process. The Scholarship Chairman will choose a replacement if required to reach a quorum. This replacement shall be a Society member who is note related to any of the applicants.
  • Scholastics shall be the primary consideration for the award.
  • The award will be for one year. Previous winners, as well as those who applied in previous years, are eligible to compete.
  • The Scholarship winner(s) , if any, will be announced at the Annual Business Meeting or Symposium.
