Kelly Johnson Award
The annual SFTE award recognizing excellence and outstanding achievement in flight test engineering is known as the “Kelly” Johnson Award. The initial award was presented to the legendary engineer of the Lockheed Skunk Works, Clarence J. ‘Kelly” Johnson, at the 1973 SFTE Symposium. Please note that nominations for the Kelly Johnson award are restricted to individuals only. Eligibility is not contingent on SFTE membership. Nominations are accepted from the general society membership and from individual SFTE chapters. Because this is a major award with international recognition, the BOD strongly encourages each chapter to submit at least one nomination. Your nomination should be in the form of a one to two page narrative justifying why your nominee should be the next “Kelly” Johnson Award recipient.

James S. McDonnell Award
This prestigious award was named for James S. McDonnell because of his strong and enduring emphasis on the Team as exemplified in his many messages to employees over the intercom which always started with “This is Old Mac Calling All The Team”. A nominated Team shall be or have been active in flight test engineering. Eligibility for the award shall not be contingent on SFTE membership or affiliation. Only Flight Test Teams may be nominated. This also is a major award with international recognition for which we have created a new trophy which we are hoping to display in the acclaimed Museum of Flight in Seattle WA, pending ongoing negotiations. The BOD strongly encourages each chapter to submit at least one nomination.  Individual members may also nominate a team. You now have a chance to honor an outstanding Flight Test Team in addition to an outstanding individual. Your nomination should be in the form of a one to two page narrative justifying why your nominee should be the next “James S. McDonnell” Team Award recipient.

SFTE Fellow Award
The highest grade achievable in the Society of Flight Test Engineers is that of a Fellow. To be considered for the grade of Fellow, an SFTE member must have been a Senior Member in good standing for at least two years and have attained a position of notable distinction in the field of flight testing. Fellows are nominated by the general society membership and/or individual chapters and then selected by their peers—current SFTE Fellows in good standing. A Fellow is awarded automatic lifetime membership in the Society alongwith the distinction and responsibility associated with this honor. Following receipt of your nominations andverification of their SFTE standing, the present Fellows will vote to select a new Fellow. The list of current SFTE Fellows is attached.
